Police, Fire Departments Outline Capital Needs to Committee

Hull Capital Improvement Committee reviews police and fire capital needs. Police Chief John Dunn presented four requests totaling approximately $411,000: an $80,000 detention cell heating upgrade marked as urgent due to state and federal regulations; an $81,000 body-worn camera system contingent on police union approval (not expected before fiscal years 2028-29); a $250,000 electronic control weapon replacement; and $140,000 for two new Ford Explorer police vehicles. Fire Chief Christopher Russo indicated the department's emergency response fleet is healthy, with most apparatus replaced in the last five years, though one engine is nearing end-of-life.
Russo said most fire department capital submissions are not highly urgent and some fall below the $50,000 committee review threshold.
