Hull School Committee Adopts Five-Year Plan
School Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Hull School Committee adopts five-year strategic plan, advances phone ban. Superintendent Mike Jetty and consultant Dr. Gary Maestas of Teaching and Learning Alliance presented the 2026-2031 plan, built around "community, confidence and curiosity," which the committee approved unanimously after an 18-member steering committee met seven times over the summer.
Members also gave first-reading approval to a new bell-to-bell personal-device ban at Hull High School, with member Aliza warning, "which is explicitly forbidden in our policy documents," about inconsistent messaging on backup chargers. The committee waived normal procedure to immediately enact a policy under the state's new Protect Act after Massachusetts missed its own guidance timeline, approved a rewritten staff-student social media policy 5-0, and renewed its annual bullying prevention plan. Four students joined Hull Public Schools this year under school choice.
The committee also accepted a $500 donation from John DeVito, Class of 1976, and observed a moment of silence for longtime Memorial Middle School lunch lady Diane Walsh.
