Hull Select Board Creates Public Safety Building Committee, Eyes New Police-Fire Facility

HULL — February 11, 2026 — Hull Select Board unanimously creates a public safety building committee to advance a joint police-fire facility study. At the February 11 meeting, the board voted unanimously to form a nine-member Public Safety Feasibility Study Committee after principal architect Greg Joint of KBA Associates presented three leading site configurations — all involving a public safety building paired with a fire substation — to address the town's geography and flood constraints. Both fire and police chiefs told the board that personnel health is at acute risk in facilities more than 100 years old, with the fire chief citing an "exploding" cancer rate linked to PFAS in turnout gear and exhaust-contaminated living quarters. Town Manager Jennifer Constable cautioned the board not to expect a site decision in time for the annual town meeting, warning that design through construction will take at minimum three years. The board also voted 4-1 to pursue a facilitated working-relationship process through either the ICMA or the Massachusetts Municipal Management Association following an annual evaluation that found the town manager met or exceeded expectations in seven of 10 categories, and separately announced a $6,658,900 settlement of the Crescent Beach seawall litigation against Allied World Insurance Company — more than $1 million above the bond amount.
