Select Board splits, then votes 5-0 on light plant letters
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Hull Select Board splits, then agrees to send dueling letters on light plant bill. Members voted 2-3 to reject combining majority and minority views in one letter, then voted 5-0 to authorize separate letters to the legislature on Bill H.5654, one in support signed by Chair Brian S. McCarthy, Vice Chair Jerry Taverna and Clerk Susan Short Green, one opposed signed by members Greg Grey and Irwin Nesoff.
Nesoff said he still has "concerns about this change and whether or not it will provide a benefit to rate payers," while Taverna and Green said legislative contacts advised that combining both views "will just provide additional confusion to the legislature." The board had voted June 30 to support the bill, which has gone before two consecutive Annual Town Meetings. Town Manager Jennifer Constable was tasked with coordinating same-day signatures at Town Hall.
