Hull Select Board names McCarthy chair, Taverna vice chair in post-election reorganization

HULL -- May 27, 2026, Hull Select Board reorganizes leadership and backs $60,000 welcome center grant. The board unanimously elevated Brian McCarthy to chair following the annual town election, while a more contested 3-2 vote appointed Jerry Taverna as vice chair over Greg Grey, with Grey telling Taverna he hoped the new role would prompt a change in his approach to social media before the vote. Susan Short Green, the board's newly elected member, was unanimously appointed clerk and also tapped to fill the Plymouth County Advisory Board seat left vacant by the departure of Jason McCann. The board voted unanimously to support a $60,000 Massachusetts Downtown Initiative Capital Grant application from the Economic Development Committee and Chamber of Commerce to establish a Hull Welcome Community Center in the new Paragon development, roughly 250 square feet at $20 per year, with the developer covering utilities.
