Hull board votes to bid for Boston Light
Select Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Hull Select Board votes to pursue its own bid for Boston Light. Members voted unanimously to file a separate letter of interest alongside the Hull Lifesaving Museum for stewardship of the nation's oldest lighthouse, after the National Park Service declined the property amid federal budget cuts. Museum Director of Development Maureen Gillis called Little Brewster Island "magical" and outlined a due-diligence process ahead of a possible application.
State Rep. Joan Meschino warned against defaulting to the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation, saying its own bonding "doesn't even bring them to 50 percent of the state of good repair." The board also appointed Kenneth Walsh to the War Memorial Commission and Veterans Council, approved a Hometown Heroes veteran-banner program, adopted its final Policies and Procedures, and declared three police vehicles surplus for auction.
